Las Doñas (The Givers) is celebrating its 43rd year of service to the University. The group was founded in 1968 in response to the Alumni Association's need for a "friend-raising" service organization composed of UCLA alumnae. Its purpose is threefold: (1) to expand the circle of friends of the University, (2) to create interest among the large groups of non-active alumni for the support of UCLA programs, and (3) to serve as a public relations team of knowledgeable alumnae who interpret UCLA to the community.
"Morning" at UCLA, a program of University speakers is the major annual event of Las Doñas..
Every March, Las Doñas presents a "Morning" at UCLA, featuring speakers from various University departments followed by a luncheon. Guests have a chance to become more familiar with Las Doñas and consider possible membership in the group. Themes from past "Mornings" include: "Where in the World is Las Doñas," "Special Collections: UCLA's Crown Jewels," "Spirit of the Renaissance," "A Mystery Morning at UCLA," and "Seize the Day: The Millennial Manifesto".
See our Calendar of events for more information about the March 2012 event.
Four other meetings during the year feature presentations, which highlight various programs and departments of the University. In addition, individual members have broadened the scope of their University involvement by serving on the boards of the Alumni Association and the UCLA Foundation, and as members of the West Center, Scholarship, Continuing Education, Spirit Selection, and Alumni Association Distinguished Service Awards Committees, and on the Academic Senate Committee on Teaching. Several members have received Alumni Association Distinguished Service Awards.
