The San Gabriel Valley Bruins is a regional alumni group originally named the Rose Bowl Bruins. It was formed in 1982 when UCLA Football moved to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. This move provided a great opportunity to create a new alumni support group in the area.
about our network
Over the years, this regional alumni group expanded beyond Pasadena. The group was renamed the San Gabriel Valley Bruins to be more reflective of the region covered by this alumni network. Our network membership now consists of UCLA alumni who reside in the San Gabriel Valley communities and adjacent Northeast LA communities.
The San Gabriel Valley Bruins – or SGV Bruins for short – focuses on UCLA alumni engagement in the San Gabriel Valley area and scholarship fundraising for the San Gabriel Valley Bruins Scholarship Fund.
Its board of directors is made up of volunteer UCLA alumni who work with the UCLA Alumni Association to plan various events and activities for alumni to gather, reconnect and support UCLA interests. Events have included hikes, happy hours, coffee/brunch socials, community service projects, UCLA Athletics game watches, gatherings at iconic SGV institutions and venues, theater outings, and more.
