16-awards-Gold-Shield-Rosemary-PlueThe 2016 Alumni Network of the Year Award goes to Gold Shield Alumnae (represented by President Rosemary Plue ’57, M.B.A. ’82). Eighty years after its founding by twelve UCLA alumnae, Gold Shield remains as committed to furthering the interests of the university as it was in 1936. Thriving today with 140 members who are invited to join based on their service to UCLA and their professional and community achievements, Gold Shield continues to support the university in a myriad of ways.

Gold Shield’s endowment of more than $3 million provides significant support for scholarships. In 2015, the organization raised more than $100,000 in scholarship donations and awarded $106,000 in undergraduate Alumni Scholarships and $15,000 in graduate fellowships for UCLA Ethnic Studies Programs. This year the network also awarded its twentieth Gold Shield Faculty Prize of $30,000 to Professor Neil Garg for his extraordinary accomplishments in undergraduate teaching, research and university service. Gold Shield continues to make huge impacts on UCLA, positively affecting the lives of alumni, students and faculty.
