Andrew Choung, J.D. '99Andrew Choung, J.D. '99 has joined the Los Angeles office of Lathrop Gage LLP as a partner in the firm’s intellectual property litigation practice.

Choung's primary focus is on high-tech, complex patent litigation and strategic counseling, including the development of licensing and monetization programs. He also handles patent trial and appeal board proceedings, such as Inter Partes Reviews. In June 2018, he won a $400 million jury verdict for his client KAIST IP on a patent related to semiconductor technology.

Choung represents a wide range of clients, with a particular focus on Korean universities, research institutes and companies. His clientele cover various high-tech fields including telecommunications technologies, display and display materials technologies, semiconductors and semiconductor manufacturing equipment, automotive and aeronautical technologies, software, internet technologies, business and financial methods, PC games, and virtual worlds and assets.

A frequent speaker on patent defense, monetization and development topics, Choung has addressed intellectual property issues at conferences presented by the Korean Association for Intellectual Property Services and the International Association of Korean Lawyers, and has authored and co-authored articles on intellectual property laws. He was named one of the “Most Influential Minority Lawyers” by the Los Angeles Business Journal in 2016.

Choung earned a bachelor's degree in physics and philosophy from Bard College in 1994 and a master's degree in aerospace from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1995.
