Asad Madni '69, M.S. '72, Ph.D., who received the 2024 UCLA Award for Professional Achievement for his revolutionary contributions to science, engineering and technology, is proud to announce that, starting in 2025, the IEEE Medal of Honor monetary prize will be increased to $2 million. In addition, for the first time, the 2025 IEEE Medal of Honor laureate will be announced at a dedicated press conference in New York, N.Y., early next year.
Madni was a driving force in the move to increase the monetary award amount.
"I received the award in 2022," Madni said. "At that time, it was $50,000, which I donated for IEEE student scholarships. Since then I and the ad hoc committee have worked tirelessly for more than two years to make it the world's largest and most prestigious award. It is now bigger than the Nobel Prize by nearly a factor of two (the Nobel Prize award was for the equivalent of approximately $1,035,000 in 2023). I did it not for any personal monetary gain but to ensure that it is recognized as the world's most prestigious award."
