Benjamin Lev '04

A public middle school founded by Benjamin Lev '04 has been named by Teach for America as a 2018-2019 "School To Learn From," a distinction garnered by just 3 other schools in the United States.

After earning his B.A. in English, Lev moved to New York, NY (missing his graduation ceremony, as he had to fly out the same day), where he joined Teach for America. In 2014, Lev founded The Hamilton Grange School in Harlem and has acted as the founding principal ever since.

Hamilton Grange was also recognized in 2018 by the New York State Department of Education as the #1 middle school in the entire state for the progress their students made on their state exams (NYS Reward School for Progress). It has twice have been named a New York City Department of Education Showcase School (1 of just 43 schools to receive this honor across 1,800 schools citywide) for their innovative approach to discipline.
