In 2016, Bruin Beth R. Temkin ’62 published “John Boles: Matinee Idol: The Golden Years.” The book, 30 years in the making, is centered on John Boles (1895-1969), the matinee idol of the early 1930's and first singing star of the “talkies.” Comprised of more than 60 head-shots and stills, the book is sure to appeal to new and old fans alike.

Temkin graduated from UCLA with a degree in Music and has been a music critic for Opera Guide, Club & Sports Magazine and the Tolucan Times. She is an active member of Hollywood Heritage, the Book Publicists of Southern California, the National Sheet Music Society and a charter member of The American Cinematheque. She lives in Los Angeles, California and is a self-proclaimed movie buff.
