Carter E. Ruby '43

photoBruin Carter E. Ruby '43 passed away on Jan. 9, 2016. While at UCLA, Carter was a member of the Psi Deuteron Chapter of Theta Delta Chi fraternity and later became president of the chapter as well as a participant on the Interfraternity Council. He also received varsity letters for boxing, majored in Geology and was admitted to the Blue Key Honor Society. Moreover, Carter was involved with ROTC and a member of Scabbard and Blade military society.

After graduation, Carter was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army. He served as an Intelligence Staff Officer, a Transfer and Movement Officer, an Infantry Unit Commander and a General Supply Officer in Biarritz, France. He closed out his military career in 1946 as a 1st Lieutenant serving as a member of the Prison Officer team overseeing the care and security of the defendants in the lead trial of the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg.

Upon his return home, Carter joined General Petroleum Company (which later merged into Mobil Oil Corporation) as a lab technician. His career transitioned into sales, marketing and finally to real estate management.

He is survived by his daughter and son, along with four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
