Cecil Bennett ("Ben") Pascal '49, M.A. '50Cecil Bennett ("Ben") Pascal '49, M.A. '50, passed away March 24 at age 91.

Pascal was Born in Chicago, IL, and moved with his family to Los Angeles when he was 11. After graduating from Belmont High School in 1944, Pascal served two years in the navy. Following the war, he began a life in academia, first completing his B.A. and M.A. in Latin at UCLA, then earning an M.A. (1953) and Ph.D. (1956) in classical philology from Harvard. He was a Harvard Traveling fellow at Padua, Italy (1956-57) and a Fulbright-Hays fellow at Rome (1967-68).

Pascal was an instructor at the University of Illinois, Champaign (1955-56) and Cornell University (1957-60) before becoming a professor of Classics at the University of Oregon. In 1996, he became a professor emeritus.

Pascal was predeceased by his wife, Ilene (1936-2013), whom he met at Cornell. He is survived by his sister Hannah Ackerman; son Keith (Kathryn); granddaughter Quinn; and several nieces and nephews.
