david-resizedDavid Montalba, M.Arch ’00 has been recognized for contextual and innovative design on two projects. The Row’s first flagship store, done in close collaboration with designer’s Ashely Olsen and Mary-Kate Olsen and interior designer Courtney Applebaum, has received an American Institute of Architects (AIA) California Council Design Award and a Los Angeles Business Council Architecture Award; and has been shortlisted for the 2015 World Architecture Festival. The 4,400-square-foot former hair salon was completely gutted to create light-filled, minimalist galleries for displaying and highlighting merchandise. Studio Dental, a mobile dental unit, has won an AIA Academy of Architecture for Health National Healthcare Design Award, AIA California Council Design Award, and AIA San Francisco Design Award. At an international level, the project was honored with a Green Good Design Award. Montalba created a “dental office on wheels” in a 26-foot-long trailer with only 230 interior square feet to accommodate a sterilization room, waiting area, and two operatories.
