CrewLAB, a premier technology provider for endurance athletics started by mechanical engineering major Dominic Pardini '18 with some former UCLA Crew teammates, recently announced that it has exceeded its goal for pre-seed funding. The effort was led by Olympic medalist and professional angel investor Patrick Manning.
The company comprises a team of product managers, designers, developers, data scientists, coaches and athletes, united by their experience on the UCLA Men's Rowing team. They went through the Startup UCLA Summer Accelerator program and still volunteer at the University in a variety of ways.
The company's promotional material states, "As technologists, we are in a position of leverage, power, and therefore responsibility to positively shape the future. Through the usage of our products and our presence in the sports culture, CrewLAB wants to be a global leader in promoting athlete betterment, coach sustainability, and lifelong participation.
"And the stakes are high for coaches in 2022. In a recent study of 10,000 youth coaches, they overwhelmingly shared that they need help! Coaches balance multiple jobs, cope with huge expectations from parents, and desperately need help addressing the mental health crises facing athletes. This study is brought to life by what we hear from our customers daily. There aren’t enough good coaches out there anymore. And the good ones are completely swamped.
"CrewLAB’s innovative platform and apps simplify and supercharge coaching, connect athletes and enable national governing bodies to evaluate and improve athletic performance. CrewLAB technology brings teams together digitally, automates many daily tasks and provides analytics to improve results and well-being.
"CrewLAB talked with over 500 coaches and athletes at all levels across the U.S. and in New Zealand, and discovered a major opportunity for data analytics software at the team level. Tech giants are pouring billions of dollars into wellness gadgets for athletes, but the coach and the team are widely underserved.
"We’ve spent 18 months developing a scalable technology platform to help coaches collect, aggregate, and correlate qualitative and quantitative data to enhance athlete wellbeing and performance.
"We fundamentally believe in the power of technology and data to radically improve human performance. Helping millions of coaches evolve from the days of clipboard and stopwatch is just the starting point."
