Donna Colin '74, M.A. '75, MBA '80
Donna Colin '74, M.A. '75, MBA '80, passed away on July 20 at the age of 69. Born in Pennsylvania, Colin moved to California as a small child when her father was awarded the seating contract for the brand new Dodger Stadium.
In an email to staff, UCLA Development Associate Vice Chancellor Laura Lavado Parker shared the news of Colin's passing:
"I am writing to share the sad news that our long-time development colleague, Donna Colin, has passed away. Donna worked for 16 years as a vital member of the UCLA School of Law development team. Donna nurtured many important philanthropic relationships and drove countless gifts in support of students, faculty and programs. Her contributions to the school and to our campus are immeasurable.
"Donna came to UCLA in 2002 as the first director of major gifts for the UCLA School of Law. I had the privilege of working with Donna from 2005-2011 when I served as Associate Dean of Development. I watched with admiration as she interacted with donors, prospects, alumni, students, staff and faculty with an abundance of care and compassion. Lindsey Williams also had the good fortune of working with Donna and they made a dynamic duo for many years. Donna worked closely with many of you and those who knew her will surely treasure their memories. She brought to UCLA a lifetime of experiences which improved and enhanced our work. Donna served as financial aid director and development officer at Southwestern University School of Law, worked for General Electric, UCLA Medical Center, Burroughs Corporation and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
"While she loved UCLA as a Bruin with a B.A. in linguistics [, an M.A. in teaching English as a second language] and an MBA in marketing, and as a Bruin Parent, her true love was her family. Donna glowed when talking about her son Brett, daughter Lindsay and son-in-law Arash, and she was especially delighted to welcome her grandson Nathan to the family. Her family was always at the core of who she was and what kept her going.
"She was one in a million. Her passing reminds me that we are not only an amazing team of highly accomplished professionals, we are in many ways a family and this loss is personal. I know those of you who knew Donna will feel her passing with deep sorrow and my heart is with you. I will miss Donna and I will think of her often with appreciation for our time together and for the many ways she made me and us better.
"Her family shared that the funeral will be this coming Monday, July 25, at Hillside Memorial Park at noon.
"On behalf of UCLA and the many lives she touched, I thank Donna for sharing so much of herself in the benefit of others and for making a truly lasting impact on us all."
