Gary and Linda CitronAustin, Texas-based public charity "Shelter with Spirit," co-founded by Gary Citron '74, is celebrating its 20th anniversary of providing "green building" grants to non-profit community developers of affordable housing in Central Texas.
“We had intended to provide pro bono architectural services from faculty at the University of Texas,” Citron said, “but local developers were more interested in actual materials and technology to improve energy efficiency for their clients, and we have been working mostly with technology like ductless mini-split systems, solar panels and spray-in-place insulation to help reduce utility costs for these economically disadvantaged households.
"So, like many UCLA Alumni, we like doing good things in our community - my late wife Linda had her sustainable parkway landscape featured on our local NBC station twice in the last two years, and most recently, in February 2025, it was featured in a Q&A with the Lower Colorado River Authority as a means for dealing with Central Texas drought conditions.”
