Gary MacDougal '58Since selling his company, Mark Controls Corporation, in 1985, Gary MacDougal '58 (www.macdougal.com) has been working in many ways to help people less fortunate move from dependency to self-sufficiency. He recently gave a speech at the annual meeting of the State Policy Network held in San Antonio to a national audience of policy "think tank" leaders on ways to help state government leaders use their billions in human services dollars more effectively to help the disadvantaged.

In addition to his B.S. degree in engineering, MacDougal earned an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School in 1963. He served as CEO of a Fortune 1000 company for 17 years, was a partner of McKinsey & Company, served as General Director of the New York City Ballet and was Chairman of the Illinois Republican Party. He was also Assistant Campaign Manager and Senior Advisor in the ’88 Bush campaign and was appointed by the President to serve as a U.S. delegate to the United Nations. He is founder and a director of the $400 million America for Bulgaria Foundation, Advisory Director of Saratoga Partners LLC, an advisor to governors on state human services reform and a writer and speaker on government reform and personal development. He has written on poverty and welfare issues for the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post, among other publications; recent articles include "Obama Should Make Saving Chicago His Pet Project" (3/29/17) and "The Labor Secretary Needs a Promotion" (12/30/16), both for the Wall Street Journal.
