Jane Rosenberg LaForge '83
The first novel by Jane Rosenberg LaForge '83, "The Hawkman: A Fairy Tale of the Great War," will be released June 5 by Amberjack Publishing. The author has previously published two full-length collections of poetry, four chapbooks of poetry, and a memoir.
"The Hawkman" is based on the Grimm Brothers fairy tale "The Bearskin," in which a lonely, broke and starving soldier is offered a deal with the devil that will supply him with riches. The price for this deal is one the soldier thinks he can bear. The true cost, however, isn't revealed until the end of the tale. The novel reimagines these events at the end of World War I in a fictional English village as a strange man emerges from among the thousands of wandering soldiers to prey upon its residents for his own existence. "The Hawkman" has been named by Publisher's Lunch/Buzz Books as a novel to watch for in Spring 2018.
