Josh Escovedo, J.D. ’12
Josh Escovedo has been named a 2021 40 Under 40 honoree by the Sacramento Business Journal. Each year the publication recognizes young Sacramento professionals with a high level of career achievement and contributions to the community.
Escovedo is a shareholder and a member of the Litigation, Intellectual Property, and Real Estate practice groups at Weintraub Tobin, a leading California full-service law firm. He is an experienced business litigator with success in resolving a broad spectrum of business disputes, with expertise in real estate, sports and entertainment, agriculture, and the highly specialized world of intellectual property litigation (primarily trademarks and copyrights). Escovedo is a frequent contributor to “The I.P. Law Blog” and is a founder and co-host of “The Briefing from the I.P. Law Blog,” a YouTube series and podcast on trademark, copyright and patent law, as well as I.P. litigation and intellectual property in the news.
In addition to his legal practice, Escovedo is an NFLPA- and CFLPA-certified contract advisor and currently represents some of the nation’s top collegiate athletes and the NFL’s Tyler Bray with respect to their name, image and likeness rights. Escovedo is the firm’s Young Lawyer representative for the Meritas Legal Network, a global affiliation of law firms in which Weintraub is a member, and he serves on the Meritas Young Lawyers Advisory Board and the Business Development Committee.
Escovedo was recently selected to participate in the 2021 class of Leadership Sacramento. His community involvement includes service on the Friends of Front Street board of directors, the fundraising board for the Front Street Animal Shelter. He is also active with Playmakers Elite Sports Academy, a nonprofit, black-owned gym and training facility that trains, coaches and prepares young athletes to use their skills and abilities to access educational and career opportunities. In addition, he is active with the Robert Irvine Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports military members (active, retired and veterans) and first responders. Josh’s pro bono work is focused on assisting professionals, athletes and entertainers of color.
Escovedo received his B.A. from California State University, Fresno. He has been recognized as a Northern California Super Lawyers Rising Star, Sacramento Magazine Top Lawyer, JD Supra Readers’ Choice Top Author Award and Best Lawyers in America® “Ones to Watch.”
