Laurie Woolery '85Laurie Woolery ’85, a director and playwright now based in New York, has been awarded the 2021 Johnson Fellowship for Artists Transforming Communities, which comes with a $20,000 award to continue her work.

Woolery, who earned her bachelor’s degree in English, is Director of Public Works at The Public Theater, a program that seeks to engage the people of New York by making them creators and not just spectators. During her long career, she has developed new work with diverse communities ranging from incarcerated women to residents of a Kansas town devastated by a tornado.
