Mark Economeu '76Mark Economeu '76 passed away on May 16. He was an avid Dodger fan who could quote baseball statistics at will; an enthusiastic supporter of UCLA sports, especially football; and a music lover with eclectic tastes and an encyclopedic knowledge of the history of recorded sound, spanning the genres from rock to folk. He had a large collection of records, CDs, tapes and books, many of them quite rare. He was a longtime member of the congregation of the Church of Rocky Peak in Chatsworth and was active in community service and social events organized on by that and other churches. His interests also included history and politics.

Born in Los Angeles and raised in Van Nuys, Economeu attended Birmingham High School, earned his A.A. degree at L.A. Valley College, and then transferred to UCLA, where he majored in Sociology. He stayed active in Bruin life as a member of the Alumni Association and two of its associated networks, the San Fernando Valley Bruins and Bruin Professionals.

Economeu's father, Leo, was a pioneer in the aerospace industry, working on the Gemini, Apollo and Space Shuttle programs, including designing the Saturn V engine that launched the missions to the moon. Mark followed his father to a career in aerospace, spending 14 years in procurement at Rockwell's Rocketdyne facility in Canoga Park. At the time of his death, he was an insurance broker.

Economeu is survived by his sister, Ellen Garberg.
