Matea Gold '96
The Washington Post announced that national editor Matea Gold '96 has been named managing editor of the newspaper, effective this September.
Gold, Daily Bruin editor in chief, 1994-95, and Courtney Kan Alcantera, Daily Bruin prime art director, 2009, were each editors on multiple projects that were recognized with Pulitzer Prizes on May 8. The Post won three Pulitzers and was a finalist in five categories.
From The Post's story on Gold's promotion:
As national editor, Gold currently leads a staff of more than 150 journalists who break agenda-setting news and deliver investigative and feature coverage of the country and a wide range of topics, including national politics, the federal government, national security, the judiciary, immigration, race, health and science.
She has spearheaded some of The Post’s most distinctive journalism, including an investigative series about the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol that won a George Polk Award and a Toner Prize for Excellence in Political Reporting and was part of the package that won the 2022 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service. Under her leadership, the National department’s coverage won two Pulitzer Prizes this week, one for National reporting and another for Feature Writing.
