Meredith Mitchell '48, M.A. '53

Meredith Mitchell '48, M.A. '53 passed away at age 89 on October 21 at his home in Georgetown, TX. Born in Omaha, NE, and raised in Los Angeles, Mitchell received his bachelor of arts and master of arts degrees in psychology from UCLA; he earned a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Cal Tech in 1960 and a doctorate in clinical psychology from Claremont Graduate University in 1967.

A certified Jungian analyst, Dr. Mitchell taught at UCLA Extension from 1975 to 1986 and again in 1990. He retired from a private practice in Van Nuys at the end of 2004. Shortly before his death, Mitchell wrote, "After spending most of my life in self-analysis, I finally came to a place of inner peace and tranquility where I live in harmony with the soul as much as is humanly possible."

Mitchell is survived by wife Roberta (Bernard) Mitchell; daughters Julie Mitchell and Gina (Mitchell) Reyes; stepdaughter Jodi Mindell; grandchildren Ayla and Alex Reyes and Caelie McRobert; and brother Allen Mitchell.
