Michael E. Latham, M.A. ’93, Ph.D. ’96Punahou School, a college preparatory school in Honolulu which counts Barack Obama among its alumni, has named Michael E. Latham, M.A. '93, Ph.D. '96, as its next president. Latham will assume the position in the summer of 2019; he will be the fourth person to lead the school since World War II.

Latham is currently vice president for academic affairs and dean of the college at Grinnell College in Iowa. Previously, he served as a member of the faculty and dean of Fordham University's College at Rose Hill in New York City.

A scholar of U.S. history and foreign relations, Latham has also taught in China at the Johns Hopkins University - Nanjing University Center for Chinese and American studies. He is the author of two books and dozens of articles, essays and reviews.

Latham graduated summa cum laude from Pomona College with a B.A. in history in 1990; his UCLA graduate degrees were also in history.
