richard-heckRenowned chemist Richard Heck passed away Oct. 10, 2015. Born in Massachusetts, Heck is celebrated for his discovery and development of the Heck reaction, and being awarded the 2010 Nobel Prize in chemistry for his work on palladium-catalyzed coupling reactions and organic synthesis. He is one of seven UCLA alumni Nobel laureates. In 2011, Heck was presented with the Glenn T. Seaborg Medal at the annual Seaborg Symposium, hosted by the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. He was 84.
