Shirley Wang '90Shirley Wang '90 is the subject of a story on the CIO Views website, describing her unlikely career path, which started with her founding her company, PlastPro, in 1994 and now finds her as the longest-standing CEO in the previously male-dominated fiberglass door industry.

“Most people underestimated us,” the article quotes Wang as saying. “No one thought we would be able to supply, deliver and withstand the test of time, yet, Plastpro is 28 years old.”

The chair of the UCLA Foundation from 2016 to 2018, Wang has also sat on foundations and boards such as Columbia University, Harvard Westlake, U.S. Olympic Committee and Douglas Emmett Inc.

“Hopefully, I am able to contribute and make an impact in many different areas in the world,” Wang says in the article. “I think success is feeling like you’re actually contributing.”

Wang is definitely contributing. As board chair of the UCLA Foundation and a leader of the University’s Centennial Campaign, which concluded in 2019, Wang made major donations to new scholarships for middle-income families and students studying abroad, as noted in this this profile on the UCLA Optimists site. “What I really hope is that young people don’t see a ceiling, whether glass or bamboo,” she said during the campaign.
