Tara B. Sweeney '86
Tara B. Sweeney ’86 passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 19. A kinesiology major at UCLA, Sweeney graduated Magna Cum Laude while playing soccer and badminton.
Sweeney had a major impact on UCLA women’s soccer: in both her junior and senior years, she was team co-captain and an all-league defensive player, and she was a strong advocate for raising women’s soccer to varsity status, as detailed in a 1985 Los Angeles Times article.
A longtime Santa Barbara resident, Sweeney was a physical therapy practitioner, working collaboratively with physicians and health care providers to establish a comprehensive healing treatment plan for her patients. A nationally recognized speaker, she presented her work at The Mayo Clinic, authored multiple articles and studies and volunteered at various local clubs.
