Ted Wong '80, D.D.S.

The UC San Francisco Dental Alumni Association announced that Major General Ted Wong '80, D.D.S., will receive the 2023 Medal of Honor.

Wong was the first officer in the U.S. Army Dental Corps to lead two regional medical commands and two major medical centers, overseeing tens of thousands of patients as well as dental trainees. He eventually achieved the rank of major general and was the first Chinese American selected as chief of the entire Army Dental Corps.

After receiving his bachelor's degree in biology, Wong earned his D.D.S. degree from UCSF and later earned a master of healthcare administration from Baylor University and a master of strategic studies from U.S. Army War College.
