Join us via Zoom to celebrate women and meet our accomplished guests: Emerald M. Archer, PhD, who will present the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Memorial Lecture, and the impressive UCLA student/s recently honored with an FWC’s Ruth Bader Ginsburg Scholarship.
Dr. Archer is associate professor of political science and director of the Center for the Advancement of Women at Mount Saint Mary’s University (MSMU). For the past 10 years, the Center at MSMU has published the annual Report on the Status of Women and Girls in California. The focus of this year’s report is the title of her RBG Lecture: “Gender Equity Disrupted: COVID-19’s Compounding Effects on California’s Women and Girls.”
Through the Center, Dr. Archer’s primary goal is to promote and increase gender equity in California and the nation. She leads the Center’s efforts related to applied research, education, and policy analysis. Dr. Archer has published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, chapters in research anthologies, and is the author of Women, Warfare and Representation: American Servicewomen in the Twentieth Century (Bloomsbury, 2017).
Dr. Archer also serves as the executive director of the Women’s College Coalition, an association of 37 U.S. and Canadian women’s colleges and universities that promotes the well-being and success of women and girls through collaborative research, admissions advocacy, and collegial opportunities.
She has dedicated her career to studying questions related to gender equity and the representation of women (including those who are transgender, nonbinary, or gender non-conforming) in non-traditional domains such as the United States military. She serves on the board of directors for the Foundation for Women Warriors and holds a PhD in political science from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
