Jan Reiff is a historian of cities and their residents, a field that has allowed her research and her teaching to reach into local communities in many cities. She has coordinated the year-long first year cluster course on Los Angeles and served as a co-editor on the award-winning Encyclopedia of Chicago. Particularly relevant to this presentation, she worked closely with other UCLA faculty, Public Matters and the Pilipino Workers’ Center on a project on Historic Filipinotown. Students in her UCLA class worked with neighborhood students in creating a tour of that community that highlighted both historical and contemporary stories. A professor of history, statistics and digital humanities, she is also the Waldo W. Neikirk Term Chair in Innovative Undergraduate Instruction (2015-2018) and the Special Assistant to the EVC/Provost for Online Instruction.
