Does shaming and blaming work to inspire behavioral change? As officials modify coronavirus restrictions, are some individuals getting a safe, free ride at the expense of others? What power and responsibility do individuals have to flatten the curve?

Cities are at various stages of reopening and, in some cases, shutting down again. Local leaders have been responsible for deciding whether or not to implement mandatory safety measures, often allowing individuals wide latitude. Pamela Hieronymi, philosophy professor and consultant for the comedy series "The Good Place," speaks with UCLA Strategic Communications’ Jessica Wolf about the different moral and ethical concepts at play as we make decisions on how to reopen the economy but still safeguard ourselves, our families and the most vulnerable in our communities.
