SUMMARY:Orange County Network: Bruins on the Troll Trail
DESCRIPTION:Step into a storybook morning with OC Bruins at South Coast Botanic Garden\, where Thomas Dambo’s larger-than-life trolls turn a garden stroll into a playful field study. \n\n\n\nJoin fellow UCLA alumni on Sunday\, Sept. 20\, for a self-guided group visit to Thomas Dambo’s TROLLS: A Field Study\, featuring 12 whimsical sculptures crafted from reclaimed wood and tucked throughout the Garden’s 87 acres. We’ll meet at 10:15 a.m. before our 10:30 a.m. ticketed entry time\, which has a firm start. Please plan to arrive on time so the group can gather and enter together. \n\n\n\nWe’ll add a Bruin twist with a photo scavenger hunt: explore the grounds\, find the trolls\, and capture your most creative poses for a lighthearted photo challenge. Learn more about the exhibit on the Garden’s website: https://southcoastbotanicgarden.org/thomas-dambos-trolls-a-field-study/ \n\n\n\nThis is a relaxed\, social way to spend time outdoors\, discover one of the South Bay’s standout garden experiences\, and connect with Bruins through art\, nature\, and a little creativity. Space is limited to 15 adult attendees. \n\n\n\nRegistration is $18 and includes general admission to South Coast Botanic Garden\, including access to the TROLLS exhibit. Please note: Registration fees are non-refundable\, as event costs are planned. \n\n\n\nThe Trolls experience may include more remote and rugged areas of the Garden\, with uneven terrain\, narrow paths and slopes. Guests should be comfortable walking and standing for the duration of the visit. \n\n\n\nPlease be respectful of Garden paths\, plantings\, fellow visitors\, and exhibit guidelines while enjoying the scavenger hunt. By attending\, you acknowledge that photos may be taken and used in future OC Bruins or UCLA Alumni communications. \n\n\n\nWe hope you’ll join us for a morning of art\, nature\, Bruin connection\, and memorable troll photos.

DESCRIPTION:This interactive session led by career coach Jessica Sanam Hekmat invites participants to pause and reset to cultivate presence and self-awareness while navigating professional and personal demands. We’ll explore practical mindfulness tools and reflective prompts designed to foster resilience\, regulate stress and re-energize focus. The conversation will balance strategy and self-inquiry\, and we’ll ground together in real time through guided breath work\, reflection and visualization. Participants will leave with practical ways to reconnect to their values and sense of purpose\, even when the external environment feels unpredictable.

SUMMARY:Taking Charge of Change: Five Fundamental Truths for Mastering the Chaos of Life With Jim Hjort ’94
DESCRIPTION:Change is the only constant in life\, and every day we are called to reckon with this. Today it may be most apparent to you in national or global tumult\, a career pivot you’re contemplating or relationship dynamics you’re struggling to tweak or adapt to. However it shows up\, you can count on the rug continuing to shift beneath your feet. And your brain really doesn’t like that\, at least by default. In its frenzy to find stability today\, it will leap to ways of thinking and behaving that will leave you feeling even more stuck\, stifled\, and afraid tomorrow. Yet\, if you are inclined toward personal growth\, you can use the tidal forces of change to propel you to ever-greater wisdom\, inner stability and even growth. In this session with Jim Hjort\, an executive and career coach\, personal development trainer and licensed psychotherapist\, you’ll learn: \n\n\n\n• Why your inner critic and pessimist is actually a key part of your team \n\n\n\n• Why you may do all the “right” things\, while feeling less and less satisfied with your life \n\n\n\n• How to look beneath the surface of your life story to identify what makes you feel truly alive—so you can have more of that \n\n\n\n• Communication skills to help you show up for yourself first\, so you can show up whole and healthy for anyone else you want in your life \n\n\n\n• How to not just survive chaos and uncertainty\, but embrace it as the essential journey of your life
