SUMMARY:San Fernando Valley Network and UCLA Lambda (LGBTQ+) Alumni Association: Padel Play Day
DESCRIPTION:Alright Bruin Alumni – get your tennis outfits and sneakers on and come learn to play the hottest new sport in town – PADEL. Trust me – it is way better than pickleball. People describe it as tennis meets squash. And yes\, you can smash the ball off the walls. \n\n\n\nWe have arranged a great morning day of padel that includes lessons/training (so if you have never played before – absolutely\, no worries – Pura Padel has 3 great coaches that will teach us all how to play). \n\n\n\nAfter the lessons\, we will try some game/open play and some live ball activities so that we all get plenty of court time. \n\n\n\nWe will have strawberries and champagne too so that we can channel our inner Wimbledon dreams. And some great UCLA swag and giveaways. No padel required as we have partnered with Wilson Padels and they are providing padels for us all to use that day. \n\n\n\nSo come out and play padel with your fellow alumni while learning to play this amazing new sport that is taking over the US.If you have never seen padel – there are a ton of great Youtube videos so that you can see all of the fun. The padel community is really vibrant and super fun – so come join us.

SUMMARY:New York Tri-State: UCLA / Cal Alumni Book Club: "The Secret History\," by Donna Tartt
DESCRIPTION:Join in a peer-led discussion on a spooky book for Halloween. This month’s title is “The Secret History\,” by Donna Tartt. \n\n\n\nUnder the influence of their charismatic classics professor\, a group of clever\, eccentric misfits at an elite New England college discover a way of thinking and living that is a world away from the humdrum existence of their contemporaries. But when they go beyond the boundaries of normal morality they slip gradually from obsession to corruption and betrayal\, and at last—inexorably—into evil. (from GoodReads)

SUMMARY:Taking Charge of Change: Five Fundamental Truths for Mastering the Chaos of Life With Jim Hjort ’94
DESCRIPTION:Change is the only constant in life\, and every day we are called to reckon with this. Today it may be most apparent to you in national or global tumult\, a career pivot you’re contemplating or relationship dynamics you’re struggling to tweak or adapt to. However it shows up\, you can count on the rug continuing to shift beneath your feet. And your brain really doesn’t like that\, at least by default. In its frenzy to find stability today\, it will leap to ways of thinking and behaving that will leave you feeling even more stuck\, stifled\, and afraid tomorrow. Yet\, if you are inclined toward personal growth\, you can use the tidal forces of change to propel you to ever-greater wisdom\, inner stability and even growth. In this session with Jim Hjort\, an executive and career coach\, personal development trainer and licensed psychotherapist\, you’ll learn: \n\n\n\n• Why your inner critic and pessimist is actually a key part of your team \n\n\n\n• Why you may do all the “right” things\, while feeling less and less satisfied with your life \n\n\n\n• How to look beneath the surface of your life story to identify what makes you feel truly alive—so you can have more of that \n\n\n\n• Communication skills to help you show up for yourself first\, so you can show up whole and healthy for anyone else you want in your life \n\n\n\n• How to not just survive chaos and uncertainty\, but embrace it as the essential journey of your life

SUMMARY:Los Angeles Westside Network: UCLA Recent Grad Mixer
DESCRIPTION:One thing many of us miss about UCLA is how easy it was to run into friends and feel part of a community because even in L.A.\, people can scatter surprisingly quickly after graduation. We want to help recreate a bit of that Bruin camaraderie here because we know there are plenty of Bruins nearby — we just don’t recognize one another now that BearWear isn’t our daily attire. We can change that. Join us for an evening of relaxed fun with the classes of 2020-26. \n\n\n\nThis is as low-key as it gets: no program\, no icebreakers and no expectation that you work the room. If you’d rather not walk in alone\, bring a friend — they don’t need to be a Bruin. Drop in for a bit or stay all evening. If you want a preview\, 1212 Santa Monica — our spot for the evening — is pictured below. Order whatever you’d like from the bar or kitchen on your own tab\, then settle into the open\, two-story space and enjoy the lively Santa Monica atmosphere. With creative cocktails\, a SoCal-inspired menu and plenty of room to catch up or get to know someone new\, 1212 feels like the perfect place to meet other recent grads who already know at least one chapter of our story. \n\n\n\nMaybe you’ll meet other sports fans to watch a UCLA game with this fall\, find people who want to explore a new local spot in the next few months\, or exchange career tips down the line. Who knows — you might even end up sitting across from one another at a Dinner for 12 Strangers that one of you hosts next February. This could be the start of a circle of Bruins you keep bumping into — and choosing to spend time with. Our greatest hope is that you make friends you like enough to say\, “We should do this again\,” and then actually do it..
