Times as a metro reporter. She married psychiatrist Irving Berkovitz in 1953; in 1962, they moved to Westwood, where they raised their family of five. Irving, who taught at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute, passed away in 2012.

Stern Berkowitz was a longtime, beloved member of Gold Shield Alumnae and the Affiliates of UCLA. She is survived by her three children, Karen, Glenn and Joel; their spouses, Jane and Jeanette; and her grandchildren, Simone, Casey, Julia, Leila and Andrew.
