We invite you to engage, learn and brainstorm ideas about enhancing institutional commitment to equity and the success for first generation, low-income and underrepresented students. Faculty, staff and administrators have an opportunity to shape UCLA’s emerging identity as an HSI at the HSI Visioning Forum on Oct. 20, 2022. The forum will engage participants in the collective process of learning from renowned scholar, Dr. Marcela Cuellar (UC Davis), who explores Latinx students’ experiences at HSIs and emerging HSIs and how their educational experiences empower them during college and beyond. We will also learn from Dr. Marla Franco who led efforts that resulted in the University of Arizona becoming the first four-year public university in the state of Arizona to be federally recognized as a Hispanic-Serving Institution. Speakers will share their knowledge, entertain your questions and facilitate discussion. We want to hear your suggestions for the campuswide plan to implement the recommendations provided by the Chancellor’s HSI Task Force: Cultivating the Seeds of Change: Becoming a Hispanic Serving Institution (PDF). We aim to achieve a collective vision and pursue a variety of strategies to achieve UCLA’s HSI goals based on shared values and principles.
In-person at UCLA Ackerman Union Grand Ballroom; Virtual link to be provided upon registration.
