Liora Paniz '07This month sees the publication of "Miss Lynnie The Librarian," the second book by Liora Paniz '07 to be published this year, following the very different "Inside the Mind of a Mediator: Strategic Conflict Intervention," which was released in January.

Miss Lynnie is a traveling librarian who zips around in her red convertible with her trusty four-legged sidekick, Eleanor. When third grader Abby sends a letter telling Miss Lynnie they are studying the pyramids of Egypt, and asks her to come to Roosevelt Elementary School, Miss Lynnie and Eleanor hit the road. There is no shortage of action when the reader meets Ammon, whose courageous adventure in an Egyptian pyramid includes stopping tomb robbers and rescuing ancient artifacts—all on his own!

Miss Lynnie the LibrarianAs always, Miss Lynnie has the perfect book, if only she can find it, in what is definitely no ordinary trunk. The reader is taken on an adventure full of time-traveling magical twists and turns.

This is the first book in the globe-trotting Miss Lynnie The Librarian series by author Paniz, who has "known" Miss Lynnie the Librarian her entire life. With her mom, a school librarian, as the true-life inspiration, Paniz has developed stories beyond the four walls of a library to take her readers into neighborhoods near and far. Using her globally inspired interests as the backdrop to every adventure, Paniz sends Miss Lynnie with a trunk full of books that will ignite the imaginations of all.

A deep appreciation for books and storytelling has spanned the generations of her multi-cultural and diverse family, so it is no surprise that the history major has chosen to become an author. In every story she writes, Paniz imparts the values gained from her own childhood experiences of being respected and trusted to lead her peers notwithstanding her age; and honors the uniqueness of diversity and the importance of inclusivity.

Inside the Mind of a MediatorAt nearly the other end of the spectrum — or, at least, a different section of your local bookstore — is Paniz's earlier book, "Inside the Mind of a Mediator: Strategic Conflict Intervention," in which she meticulously examines and explains conflict intervention skills and strategies so that the reader learns to identify which to use and when, how to layer them effectively, and how their characteristics change when paired. Correctly applying the techniques expertly developed and explained in this book will foster a deepened understanding of conflict intervention and resolution, all vital to thinking like a well-rounded mediator, enabling successful mediating. Furthermore, this book is a guide toward cultivating essential skills for personal, social and business interactions, beneficial for all matters involving any form of negotiation.

A veteran of federal, state and private mediations, Paniz has developed strategic conflict intervention for application across sectors and disciplines. She actively provides mediation and consultation for business transactions and related negotiations, familial disputes, personal and professional relationships, and disputes resulting from the ultra-intense pressures of competitive sports and performance-based events and activities. Her belief in mediation as the rising star in our dispute resolution firmament is evidenced by a decade-long dedication to providing necessary and approachable mediation and conflict intervention. Paniz's mediation company is SCI Mediation.
