Long-Sun Huang, Ph.D. ’99 passed away May 31, 2017, aged 50, at National Taiwan University, where he was a professor at the Institute of Applied Mechanics. A proud Bruin, Huang received his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering. He met his wife while both were students at UCLA and the couple paid a nostalgic visit to the campus last summer. Huang is mourned by family, friends, and those to whom he was a valued adviser. Yu-Wei Chung, a UCLA Ph.D. student in mechanical and aerospace engineering, benefited from Huang's guidance while a master's student in Taiwan. Chung reflected on the poignancy of Huang's passing. "It was just the time for him to shine; however, heaven does not abide by the wishes of people."
