Barbara Morgan, the “prima photographer of modern dance,” began her professional career in the 1930s. Her photographs are not merely documents but rather artistic interpretations of movement. Colleagues credit her for bringing photography into its current status as an accepted art form. The creativity of this gracious lady is captured in every frame she shoots. Her pictures “move.”

Morgan attended UCLA from 1919-1923. She joined the art faculty here in 1925. During the next decade, Morgan undertook the various artistic endeavors of painting, theater, dance, exhibiting, puppetry and music. Her efforts then turned to photography. Known as one of America’s most outstanding and innovative photographers, Morgan’s portfolio is unexampled.

Morgan’s “bibliography” is an account of carried expressions of her creativity. Her photographs, exhibitions and books serve as a montage of the creative talent that is Barbara Morgan.
