Beverly Robinson ’74
Dr. Beverly Robinson has an unyielding commitment to cultural exchange within the community. An assistant professor in the department of theater arts and folklore and mythology at UCLA, she has gone far beyond her academic pursuits to direct and produce African-American cultural events in film, television, radio, theater and community celebrations.
Demonstrating a wide ranging interest in community concerns, Robison’s contributions are extensive. She has been a designer and director for the Los Angeles Bicentennial Ethnic Folklife Festival. She serves on the Dunbar Hotel and Museum Board of Directors and on the board of artists for the Brockman Gallery Productions. She is a producer of the Black Speakers in the Arts Forum at UCLA. For six years, Dr. Robinson has volunteered for the Los Angeles Adoption Service.
Robinson received her bachelor’s degree in ethnic arts from UCLA in 1974 and was honored that year with the Alumni Association’s Outstanding Senior Award. She earned her master’s from the University of California, Berkeley and her Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. A life member of the UCLA Alumni Association, she was the 1983 recipient of UCLA’s Faculty Advancement Award for Research.
