Bradley Straatsma
Dr. Bradley Straatsma has served as professor and chairman of the UCLA department of ophthalmology and director of the Jules Stein Eye Institute since its inception in 1964. His appointment as associate professor of surgery/ophthalmology in 1959 was the prelude to outstanding service performance at UCLA. Straatsma has had an incalculable impact on the progressive expansion of the Center for Health Sciences. Through his enlightened leadership, the UCLA Department of Ophthalmology has evolved into one of the top centers for treatment and study of vision in the world. Straatsma was principally responsible for the establishment of the Jules Stein Eye Institute, which has brought enormous international distinction to UCLA.
UCLA has benefitted from Straatsma’s talent as a researcher, clinician, educator, administrator, fund-raiser and surgeon.
