Bruno Werner Garlepp ’93
During his undergraduate years at UCLA, Bruno Garlepp has distinguished himself in the classroom and the community. Among the honors he has received are the Alumni Association Distinguished Scholar Award, UC Regents’ Scholar designation, Litton Industries Foundation Scholarship and the School of Engineering and Applied Science Dean’s Honor List.
Bruno belongs to Eta Kappa Nu (national electrical engineering honor society), serving as its president in 1993 and to Tau Beta Pi National Engineering Honor Society in which he served as recording secretary in 1991. He has been active in the Minority Engineering Program as well as the Society of Latino Engineers and Scientists.
Active in the UCLA Alumni Scholars Club since 1988, Bruno has served as Bunche Scholarship Committee chairman, Bunche representative and as development director. He has conducted tours of UCLA for high school students, served as a panelist at “UCLA Experiences” (a program to attract the best and brightest) and been a “guardian angel” to freshmen students.
Having chosen integrated circuits as his specialization within electrical engineering, Bruno has exhibited an unusual clarity in his understanding of the topic and an ability to see well beyond pure mechanics to fundamental scientific questions. His recent research has important applications in integrated circuit electronics and relates to his graduate school interests in electrical engineering. He will pursue both an M.S. and Ph.D. with the hope of teaching at the University and within the industry.
