Cormac Carney ’83

Cormac Carney is a scholar-athlete with a rare combination of athletic ability, scholastic excellence and strong character. A psychology major with future plans to become an attorney, Carney was a Rhodes Scholar candidate, winner of the Jack R. Robinson UCLA Football Team Scholastic Achievement Award and UCLA All-Around Excellence Award winner, an award given for leadership, character and sportsmanship. A three-year starter on the football team, Carney was First Team Academic All-American for two years, First Team All-Pacific-10 selection as a wide receiver and reset virtually every UCLA receiving record.

Carney was a volunteer tutor in the athletic department and represented UCLA and the team at many community events. He also offers volunteer instruction of basic football skills at local high schools and junior colleges. Carney was named Athlete of the year of 1982 by the Long Beach Century Club, an honor based on athletic achievement, character and integrity.
