Elisabeth Turner
As part of the Office of Residential Life (ORL), Elisabeth Turner has worked to make the residence halls “living-learning communities” that students call home. As a part of ORL, Turner has served as both a resident assistant and a program assistant, helping to develop a sense of community among the residents. She is taking a year off from school and will continue serving the ORL as an assistant resident director.
In her sophomore year, Turner discovered another passion. UCLA/Ujima Team Up! is a UCLA student group that works with elementary school students living in a South Central Los Angeles community called Ujima Village. Team Up! holds weekly homework help and monthly field trips. The goal of this partnership is to build relationships. “Everyone has something important to bring to the table, if we get to know others, we can learn something worthwhile,” says Turner. She is dedicated to Team Up! and plans to be the group’s advisor this coming year. Education is Turner’s passion; after taking a year off, she will earn her teaching credential, and then hopes to obtain a master’s degree in public policy.
