Congressman Glenn Anderson, representing the 32nd District, is a native Californian with an exemplary 45-year record of service in a distinguished political career. He is a popular legislator who is highly respected for his integrity and concern for the individual rights of all citizens.

At the age of 27, he was elected the mayor of Hawthorne. He held four consecutive terms in the California State Assembly, and he served from 1959 to 1967 as governor of California and as a regent of the University of California. He took special interest in the rapid expansion of the university and state college systems, proposing maintenance of free tuition and establishment of adult education divisions for the growing number of returning degree candidates.

Since 1968, Anderson has served continuously in the House of Representatives on behalf of his half-million constituents. He is a member of the public works and transportation committee and the merchant marine and fisheries committee. He guides the consideration of legislation concerning all aspects of mass transit as chairman of the House Surface Transportation Subcommittee. A member of the Congressional Shipyard Coalition, Anderson led the legislative effort to deepen the Los Angeles Harbor Channel, resulting in increased trade by permitting larger vessels access to the Port of Los Angeles.

Anderson received his bachelor’s degree in political science from UCLA. He is a 1964 recipient of the Alumni Association’s Professional Achievement Award.
