Lester Breslow

Under the leadership of Dr. Lester Breslow, the UCLA School of Public Health has doubled in size to become one of the outstanding public health institutions in the world. Dr. Breslow came to UCLA in 1968 following his directorship of the California State Department of Health. He chaired the UCLA Department of Preventive and Social Medicine and served as dean of the School of Public Health from 1972-1980. Dr. Breslow continues to serve the University as professor of public health and member of the Center for Health Sciences Educational and Research Policy Advisory Committee.

Dr. Breslow has acted as chair or member of more than 20 campus wide and system wide committees involved in academic and research planning and program review. He has been a guiding force in the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center. He received his B.A., M.D. and M.P.H. from the University of Minnesota.
