Whether she was helping allocate funds to 1994 earthquake stricken communities or enlightening bright students about the benefits of a Bruin education for the Advisory and Scholarship Committee, Marilyn Brainard has been a true asset to the community in countless capacities.

For more than four decades, she has devoted her time and effort to numerous organizations in the Los Angeles area. As a member of the City of Agoura Hills Community Services Advisory Committee from 1993 to 1998, Brainard helped develop city parks and was instrumental in leading the successful passage of the 1996 Los Angeles County Proposition A Park Bond Act, which secured funds for the long awaited local community center.

As a member and president of the Volunteer league of the San Fernando Valley, Brainard was involved in projects benefiting the valley, including designing the comprehensive volunteer program for the Family Crisis Center of the Children’s Bureau of Los Angeles.

In 1996, United Way recognized Brainard’s extraordinary spirit of charity and leadership by presenting her with the Gold key Award for her years of service to the organization. According to the nominating form, “this is the most prestigious award given annually to a volunteer who has served United Way and the community in a truly outstanding manner.”

Not only has she given tirelessly to the community, but she and her husband, Bill have raised two sons and are today proud grandparents. Between her busy schedule and active family life, Brainard admirably found a balance in her life, touching many others along the way. She continues involvement in her new community of Sparks, Nevada.
