Martin Rosen’s 25 years of leadership of the Trust for Public Land, a national environmental organization, has resulted in the protection of over a million acres of land across the country – more than any other in the American environmental movement. He was able to link concern for open space to the needs of urban America and its most underserved citizens. Under Rosen’s leadership, contributions to the Los Angeles community alone have included the expansion of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area and key sponsorship of the Safe Neighborhood Parks Act, which has made $270 million available for urban open space.
