A recipient of an Alumni Association Distinguished Bruin Award, a Wasserman Foundation Scholarship, inductee into the Office of Residential Life's "Hall of Fame" and a "Super Hero" Certificate for being ultra-dedicated and cheerful, Mindelyn Buford graduates in June.

Mindelyn's long term involvement with the Office of Residential life helped create a sense of community for thousands of UCLA residential students.

Mindelyn gave a talk at the Pacific Sociological Association's annual conference on her National Science Foundation research project, "Homeless Men in Public Parks - Assumptions versus Realities."

At the Annual Southern California Conference on Undergraduate Research, Mindelyn presented a research paper based on her senior thesis project about the Black male experience at UCLA. Another research paper, "Get Me Out of This Place, Unless You Make it Worth My Time," explores the interaction between probation officers and probationees.

Along with her majors in sociology with double minors in anthropology and policy studies, Mindelyn Buford also hosts a UCLA radio show.

She also participates in UCLA's Academic Advancement program, the Career Based Outreach Program - where she mentors high school students and numerous community activities.

While doing all of this, Mindelyn has had to assume all of the financial responsibility for her education.

"Mindelyn brings a sense of altruism and dignity to all that she does. She is the kind of individual who strives to be a positive catalyst to those around her - and is. In addition to razor sharp intelligence, she possesses sound judgment and a great deal of diplomacy. In this individual you have a star."
