Molly Crockett ’05

Molly joined Dr. Matt Lieberman's research team as a freshman at UCLA and ran an experiment that examined the interactions between controlled conscious thought and automatic affective thought. The following year, she investigated the disruption theory, based on the observation that labeling and describing emotions can have disruptive effects on the experience of emotion. The summer after, she attended the American Psychological Association's Summer Science Institute and interned as a psychology research assistant at UC Berkeley. Molly demonstrated continued excellence in her course of study and has even made presentations to the Cognitive Neuroscience Society, an achievement that most graduate students accomplish in their third year.
In addition to all of her academic accolades, Molly has demonstrated a commitment to serving the UCLA community. She integrates her interest in psychopathology with her desire to help other UCLA undergraduates by volunteering as a listener on the UCLA Peer Helpline. Molly is currently president of the Alumni Scholars Club, directing and overseeing all ASC programs for 800 members. She has previously served in ASC as Alumni Relations director, Freshman Scholarship director and Freshman Scholarship coordinator. Molly also serves as a Regents Scholar Society Outreach mentor, helping prospective UCLA Regents Scholars with their college decisions and transition to UCLA.
