Peter Guber was named chairman of the board and chief executive Officer at Sony Pictures Entertainment in 1989. This appointment was the latest milestone in a 25-year career in which Mr. Guber has already achieved recognition as one of the most successful and innovative motion picture producers in history. The films that he has produced, co-produced or executive produced have earned more than $3 billion at the box office worldwide and more than 50 Academy Award nominations, including four times for Best Picture with "Rain Man".

Earning a B.A., LL.M. and J.D. degree, Mr. Guber joined Columbia Pictures while pursuing an M.B.A. degree at New York University and, at age 29, became president of that studio. In 1976, he left Columbia and founded Casablanca Records and FilmWorks. After the sale of Casablanca in 1980, Mr. Guber formed Polygram Pictures, selling Polygram in 1983 and founding the Guber-Peters Entertainment Company which was acquired by Sony in 1989. Sony Pictures Entertainment has achieved record success in the past two years in its revitalized motion picture department, leading the industry with Academy Award nominations.

Mr. Guber is a 20-year faculty veteran of the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television, a Distinguished Visiting Professor, Co-Chairman of the Producer’s Program and on the UCLA Foundation Board of Trustees.
