Exemplary in his motivation to derive maximum benefits from his studies as well as other activities, Robert Dellavalle has made strong contributions in scholarship, student governance, administration, and community service during his UCLA career. A Department Scholar in philosophy, he graduates magna cum laude with both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in philosophy, having also completed graduate level work in biology. Dellavalle enters the University of Chicago this fall to work toward a combined M.D.-Ph.D. and a career in research medicine, having won a place in the arduous Medical Scientist Training Program. His numerous honors include an Alumni Association Distinguished Scholar Award and Division of Honors stipends for his research in philosophy and genetics. He is co-author of a paper published in Genetics.

Among Bob’s many campus activities, he was an Academic Peer Counselor for the College of Letters and Science, chief justice of the ASUCLA Student Judicial Board, a leader in many College Honors activities, and founding co-editor of the UCLA Undergraduate Science Journal. Long before many others were concerned about the plight of Central Americans, he served as a volunteer helping refugees at the El Rescate Legal Clinic. With his exceptional academic achievements and service to others, Bob exemplifies the ideal of a liberal arts education.
