Sheila Cameron ’55

Sheila Cameron is actively involved at UCLA, bringing innovation, experience, insight and energy to bear on the challenge at hand. The association's advisory and scholarship program has benefitted substantially from her creativity. She served as vice president for Advisory and Scholarship on the association board of directors with the concomitant role of chair of the steering committee. During her tenure program, innovations were created which enabled advisory and scholarship to address the dramatic new needs of the University. It takes a leader with tremendous vision and dedication to move a program in new directions. The vision itself is impressive – to actually implement that vision is a distinct achievement.

Concurrent with her leadership in Advisory and Scholarship was her service as president of Gold Shield, an alumnae support group for UCLA which annually provides nearly $60,000 and thousands of hours of support to university programs. Sheila was asked to continue as president a second term, becoming only the second two-term president in Gold Shield's 57-year history.

A founding member of the docent group established at the Visitors' Center for the 1984 Olympic events at UCLA, Sheila's service includes lead docent in the Hannah Carter Japanese Garden , escort of international visiting heads of state and campus guide to guests of the chancellor and various deans.

Service on the Dean's Advisory Council for the division of honors and undergraduate programs, active participation in Las Donas and Affiliates as well as service on the Association's academic and university affairs committee are among Sheila's myriad university activities.

Sheila Cameron is an outstanding representative of the university, whose dedication, commitment and unselfish years of service in support of UCLA's mission we now honor with the University Service Award.
