Darren Carpizo, Ph.D. '03
Darren Carpizo, M.D., Ph.D. '03, has been awarded a $500,000 research grant by the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, which is dedicated to fighting the disease, the third leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States.
Carpizo did his undergraduate studies at Cornell University, and received his M.D. at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He then completed a residency in surgery at UCLA Medical Center while completing a Ph.D. in molecular, cell and developmental biology.
Following completion of his surgical residency, Carpizo went on to complete a fellowship in surgical oncology at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He is now an associate professor of surgery and pharmacology and is also the co-director of the gastrointestinal oncology research program.
